Local Train Derails In Kashmir, Dozens Injured

SRINAGAR: Over two dozen people commuters were injured on Wednesday morning when a local train coming from Qazigund to Srinagar station derailed near Sadoora near Kulgam in south Kashmir.

Railway police inspector Sandeep Kour said that the train started at 11am from Qazigund station and derailed due to some miscalculation by the driver near Sadoora at about 11.15am.

Hundreds of commuters travel by train to north and south of Kashmir every day since 2008. The travelers are mostly government and private employees.

SP Kulgam Mubashir Latiffi said the accident occurred due to the brakes failing. "We are however investigating the matter," he said.

The divisional administration has asked chief area manager Northern Railway, Upinder Singh, to enquire into the matter and furnish a report.

Singh who visited the spot said that a comprehensive report would be prepared to avoid such incidents in future.
